What is a FibroScan®?
A FibroScan® is an FDA-cleared, ultrasound-based exam that helps evaluate the health of your liver without the need for a biopsy. During the procedure, a trained specialist places a small handheld probe against the skin over your liver. Gentle vibrations pass through the liver tissue to collect measurements in just a few minutes.
FibroScan® measures two important indicators of liver health:
Liver Stiffness
Higher stiffness measurements may indicate liver fibrosis, or scarring, which can develop over time from chronic liver disease.
Liver Fat
The exam also measures fat buildup within the liver, helping healthcare providers evaluate conditions such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and other liver disorders.
